ON-CALL MEDICAL DIRECTOR

Reports to: Executive Director

Compensation: $2,000 per quarter; Plus Mileage, and Travel Expenses

Position Location: Portales / Clovis, New Mexico

Remote Hybrid: You can live anywhere in NM, but must travel to Clovis / Portales 2x per month, travel is reimbursed. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is currently FT or PT employed.

Arise serves seven counties in Eastern New Mexico: Roosevelt, Curry, DeBaca, Harding, Lea, Quay, and Union

Position Function & Overview:

This is an on-call as needed position to serve communities in Eastern New Mexico. The oncall Medical Director will support our SANE Nurses as they provide SANE exams in the seven counties we serve.  

The primary mission of the SANE program is to meet the needs of the sexual assault survivor by providing immediate, compassionate, and comprehensive forensic evaluation and medical treatment by trained, professional nurses.

Scope of Work:

  • The Medical Director will provide medical expertise, guidance, and quality assurance of medical protocols specific to SANE nurse activities, records, and training

  • Will be available 24/7/365 to assist the SANE Coordinator and SANE nurses on call with emergency consultations or make appropriate arrangements for physician back-up support

  • Agrees to respond to SANE requests for support within one business day

  • Be available for monthly medical consults with the SANE Coordinator

  • Assist with Quality Assurance issues, specifically those relating to physician interactions 

  • Oversee pharmacy standing orders

  • Diagnose patients

  • Support individual case chart review, SANE evaluations, quality assurance, and other SANE personnel issues as needed

Program Goals:

  • Encourage and support sexual assault survivors in their seeking professional, medical intervention resulting from sexual assault

  • Provide immediate and caring response and medical treatment for the sexual assault survivor

  • Ensure quality collection of forensic evidence, in coordination with law enforcement and other involved agencies

  • provide expert testimony to assist prosecution

  • coordinate with the continuum of programs - from law enforcement, crisis response, emergency medical services, hospitals, district attorneys offices, volunteer and civic groups, schools, to community and state agencies involved ni preventing and reducing violence - to ensure a seamless delivery of services for the sexual assault survivor

Professional Requirements:

  • Lead by example; demonstrate radical personal responsibility and authenticity; act with ethical intent; and treat individuals with dignity and respect

  • Maintain patient confidentiality at all times 

  • Complete continued education/training requirements 

  • Represent the organization positively and professionally

  • Communicate the mission, ethics, and goals of the organization 

  • Participate in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement activities 

Qualifications: 

  • Must have one of the following credentials

    • PA, NP, CNP, GYN, ACP, DO, MD

  • Have a current New Mexico medical license in good standing

  • Must have a valid New Mexico Driver’s License 

  • Must provide their own medical malpractice insurance

  • Must maintain other relevant employment certifications

  • Completed NM SANE Training or any SANE Training, preferred

  • Possess an authentic desire to help victims of crime and be genuinely compassionate

  • Ability to work independently, exercise creativity, be attentive to detail, and maintain a positive attitude 

  • Ability to manage multiple and simultaneous responsibilities and prioritize duties/tasks 

  • Ability to initiate communication with clients, their families, and other visitors 

  • Must have excellent customer service and communication skills with the ability to effectively calm patients and be able to deal with distressed or agitated clients and their families 

  • Must have a professional and calming presence when interacting with the public

  • Ability to navigate stressful situations
