FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do I have to report to law enforcement to get a SANE exam?

A: Adults (ages 13 and up) do not have to report to law enforcement for a SANE exam unless the offender is in a position of authority. Pediatric patients must be reported in accordance with mandated reporting laws. Reporting mandates will always be discussed with the survivor before the exam.

Q: What if I don’t have health insurance?

A: All SANE/Advocacy services provided are free.

Q: What if I have a warrant? I don’t want to be arrested if I come in for services.

A: All services are confidential. Your information will never be shared with law enforcement if you choose not to report it to the police.

Q: I had been drinking. What if no one believes me?

A: WE BELIEVE YOU. Non-judgmental advocates are here to walk you through processing what happened and help you get the support you need to thrive.

Q: Does getting an exam feel like being assaulted again?

A: Having a physical exam might feel triggering. Our SANE nurses are here to conduct your exam with a trauma-informed approach, and our advocates are available to support you throughout the entire process. We also offer counseling services to support your mental health needs.

Q: Why would I want to talk to kids about sexual assault?

A: Arise’s mission to end sexual violence in Eastern New Mexico includes teaching children about bodily autonomy, or “being the boss of your own body.” It is never too early to help children learn about safe touches and healthy boundaries. We can tailor our messages to everyone across the lifespan, including delivering age-appropriate messages to kiddos! Please don't hesitate to contact our Outreach/Prevention Advocate for more information.

Q: Are you hiring?

A: Yes!
